Reading the bible is what helps to make a Christian a Christian... Although the King James Version (KJV) is the most preferred English translation; because it is as close as you can get to the scripture that was originally written in Hebrew, it is still permissable that you read a version of the bible that is much easier to understand. If you've ever sat down and tried to read the bible and were feeling that it was too difficult to understand, there are other alternatives to 'reading'. Reading and Hearing God's Word is very important. Other methods to reading the bible may actually help you to understand God's word in a way that you can apply it to your own life. One of these methods is the Bible on Audio CD. You can purchase the Bible on CD in different versions. It seems that the NLT is the easiest to understand and apply to your life - while still having the ability to follow along in your own bible. 'The Message' on CD is another easy-to-understand version that is narrated more like a story, and easiest to apply to everyday life. However, unless you actually have the book 'The Message', it is difficult to follow along, that is if it is something you prefer to do. BibleGateway.com is also another great resource if you are online a lot and prefer to read scripture online. There are also a few websites online that will allow you to download the Audio Bible for free.
Regardless of the venue you use to receive God's word into your life, be sure that you remain cautious as to the source of scripture. It has been presumed by many in the past, that there are bibles in production that are counterfeit, containing scripture that has been added - that is not of God. Just make sure that your sources are genuine, and beware that there are many false prophets in the world right now. The bible warns us that Satan 'Comes as a 'light' as a 'wolf in sheep's clothing'.
It is also important as a Christian, especially a new Christian, that you find a bible-based church that will guide you and give you a foundation to stand on. Sure, you can read the bible and listen to the word of God, but you may never fully understand what you are reading and hearing without the guidance of a pastor or minister who can explain what the scriptures mean.
